Overview
The WBE Transportation Department plays a vital role in ensuring safe and reliable transportation for our students. We operate six bus routes supported by six dedicated bus drivers and six bus monitors.
Our responsibilities include:
- Training new and existing drivers and monitors
- Maintaining a safe fleet of buses and vans in compliance with the Ministry of Transportation regulations
- Coordinating daily school routes and extracurricular trips
- Overseeing vehicle procurement and retirement as needed
In addition, the department manages bus lists, vehicle repairs and maintenance, and staff recruitment to keep operations running smoothly.
Highlights and Achievements
- Updated Student Transportation Policy: WBE's Student Transportation Policy was reviewed and updated in 2026, strengthening expectations around transportation eligibility, route, and stop safety, student supervision, transportation requests, and bus safety practices. The revised policy received WUT approval on June 29, 2026.
- Improved Route Planning and Bus Lists: Transportation has continued to strengthen route planning through BusBoss, including updating routes and stops, reviewing pickup and drop off locations, and coordinating student registration information with the schools. Route maps and bus lists were also reviewed and updated for the 2026 - 2027 school year.
- BusBoss and Transportation Technology: Work continued toward implementing bus tablets and improving the use of BusBoss for routing and transportation management. Transportation staff received BusBoss training and worked on route development within the system. WBE has also been reviewing the move to ROUTEpatrol Web, which would provide web-based access and integrate routing, student tracking, tablet management and parent applications within the same system.
- Activity Bus: The Activity Bus continues to support student opportunities beyond regular school transportation, providing dedicated transportation for athletic events, robotics competitions, educational trips and other school activities.
